A Falkirk community football club has secured the long-term future of a local sports pavilion through a landmark council agreement. Carron Huskies Community Football Club will take over the lease of Glen Park Pavilion on a 20-year Community Benefit Lease for just £1 a year.
The decision by Falkirk Council's Executive ensures the relatively new facility, which was previously marked for closure, will remain in community use. The club, which has been operating from the pavilion since October 2025, will now be responsible for all repairs, insurance, and maintenance costs.
Paul Kettrick, the council's head of investment, assets and climate, said the arrangement benefits everyone. "Carron Huskies have stepped in to run Glen Park Pavilion since last October and have shown they can manage it well," Kettrick stated. "The lease gives the club the security to plan ahead while keeping the pavilion open and in community use."
The deal provides significant financial savings for the local authority. With the pavilion's rental value estimated at £2,000 annually, the council will save £1,595 each year while ensuring the asset is actively maintained. Carron Huskies has a membership including 130 girls, with more than 200 people using the facility weekly for inclusive football opportunities.
This community support comes as the senior Falkirk side handles a challenging Premiership campaign. The Bairns currently sit 11th in the standings with 6 points from their opening seven matches, a run that includes a recent 1-1 draw away to St Johnstone. The team's recent form, shows they have scored an average of 1.2 goals per 90 minutes this season. They will look to improve on that as they prepare for their next league fixtures, which include a home match against Hibernian. The club provides a vital pathway from grassroots to professional levels, with the community game's health directly supporting the wider football ecosystem in the town.
