Transfer Announcement

On August 21, 2026, D.C. United confirmed the permanent transfer of forward Jacob Murrell to Falkirk Football Club of the Scottish Premiership. The move was announced by D.C. United’s Managing Director of Soccer Operations, Dr. Erkut Sogut, who praised Murrell as a local talent who grew into a professional over three seasons.

Murrell’s MLS Journey

Murrell, a Baltimore native, was selected seventh overall in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas on December 19, 2023. He signed a three-year contract on January 12, 2024, running through 2026 with an option for 2027. He made his first MLS start on April 27, 2024, against the Seattle Sounders, playing 75 minutes, and scored his first career goal on May 4, 2024, in the 33rd minute of a 2-2 draw with the Philadelphia Union at Audi Field.

In his rookie season, Murrell finished with one goal and three assists in 27 appearances (six starts) over 866 minutes, and he added three appearances in the 2024 Leagues Cup. The 2025 season saw him score two goals and record an assist in 24 appearances across the MLS regular season, logging 865 minutes. His most memorable moment came on March 1, 2025, when he scored a bicycle-kick goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time at Soldier Field to secure a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire. He also added a goal in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearances that season.

The current season, Murrell has made eight substitute appearances and recorded an assist in a comeback win over Orlando City SC, along with one U.S. Open Cup appearance. Across all competitions since joining D.C. United, he has played 65 matches, scored four goals and recorded five assists.

Falkirk’s Perspective

Falkirk Football Club, competing in the Scottish Premiership, welcomed the forward to bolster their attacking options. While the club has not disclosed a transfer fee, the signing is expected to strengthen Falkirk’s squad depth and provide a young, experienced forward with MLS pedigree.

The transfer was completed on August 21, 2026, marking the first time a former D.C. United player has joined a Scottish club in the modern era. Murrell will begin training with Falkirk immediately, with his debut anticipated in the upcoming Premiership fixtures.
