Falkirk FC are currently 12th in Premiership, 0 points, 0W-0D-1L from 1 game, recent form L. Scott Bain, the experienced goalkeeper, believes his teammates need to take a streetwise approach to the new Scottish Premiership season. The Bairns secured a top-six berth last season but have been victims of their own success with players like Barney Stewart, Calvin Miller, and Dylan Tait earning moves away from the club. Last campaign's loan stars, including Swansea City's Filip Lissah, have also left gaping holes to fill. With 12 summer additions, Bain believes that the players in front of him need to play smart after showing 'naivety' during the opening weekend defeat to St Mirren. Speaking after the 2-0 home loss, Bain stressed: 'It is kind of similar to the start of last season. We were trying to find our feet in the league and learn on the job quickly. I think that showed today. We were a bit naive at times. We allowed them to break in transition too much. They had numerous chances where it was maybe a 3v2 or a 4v3 in transition. We need to learn from that and be a bit more streetwise going forward in the next couple of games. The manager is very clear on how he wants us to play. We sit in this room (for video analysis) every week for hours. The way that we want to play should be nailed into the players. We need to realise that sometimes if it's not going the exact way that you want it to go or the manager's plan isn’t working, you need to find a way to win. You need to find a way not to lose too. We're 1-0 down in that game and it's only 1-0 and we're a wee bit gung-ho trying to get goals to win. There's plenty of time at that point. I think we just need a wee bit of patience. I think we probably need to look more at being hard to beat at times compared to last season, whereas we were very much you score, we score. We had a real potent threat there. Until we find our way in this league and, as I say, this transition with a new team, we still need to find ways to win and dig in. Last Saturday's dismal defeat didn't have bring many positives to the table but Bain's return to the starting eleven was a successful one. The 33-year-old last competitive match was against Rangers back in April, with the goalkeeper having struggled to shake off a foot injury that reappeared during the Bairns' pre-season training camp in Portugal. Despite coming in from the cold, Bain made a string of superb saves to keep the score down against the Saints, and he showed why he had the No 1 jersey over Nicky Hogarth - who would have rightfully felt it was harsh for him to have been benched.
