Falkirk's away supporters will have access to controlled alcohol sales at Tannadice Park this weekend. Dundee United Football Club confirmed on Tuesday that an occasional licence has been granted for the William Hill Premiership fixture.
According to a statement from Dundee United, the licence permits the sale and consumption of alcohol within specific areas of the CalForth Construction Arena. "Dundee United Football Club can confirm that the club has been granted an occasional licence by Dundee City Licensing Board to permit the sale and consumption of alcohol within designated areas of the CalForth Construction Arena at Tannadice Park for the forthcoming William Hill Premiership fixture against Falkirk," the club said. The news comes as Falkirk look to improve on their current league standing of 11th, having taken just two points from their opening five games.
Where can alcohol be purchased and consumed?
Alcohol will be available in the George Fox Lower and Upper concourses, as well as the Eddie Thompson Stand Upper and Lower concourses. These are the only areas where consumption is permitted. Supporters cannot take drinks into the stadium seating bowl. The club's Alcohol Management Plan and strict licence conditions will govern all sales.
For this match, selected home end turnstiles will open at 1pm, with bar facilities operating until 2:30pm. The remaining turnstiles open at 2pm, ahead of the 3pm kick-off. Only supporters aged 18 and over will be able to purchase alcoholic beverages, and the Challenge 25 policy will be in force throughout the stadium. There will also be a maximum purchase limit per transaction.
What is Falkirk's current situation heading into the game?
Falkirk travel to Dundee United seeking their first league win of the season. Their form reads DLLDL, and they have scored just three goals while conceding seven. The Bairns are already 13 points behind early leaders Celtic in the title race. Manager John McGlynn also has significant injury concerns to manage, with six players currently sidelined: Aidan Nesbitt, Connor McLeod, Craig Sibbald, Ethan Laidlaw, Keelan Adams, and Finn Yeats. The full extent of the squad's availability can be seen on our injuries page.
How does this affect the matchday experience?
The introduction of alcohol sales is a one-off arrangement for this fixture, managed under the temporary licence. It aims to provide an additional service for supporters while maintaining a controlled environment. The early closure of bars at 2:30pm ensures a clear buffer before the match begins at -3pm.
Falkirk's focus will quickly shift to their next fixture after this weekend's trip. They are scheduled to host Dundee United at home in the return match on Boxing Day, December 26th. You can view the full schedule on our fixtures page. The Bairns will hope to have moved up from 11th place by then, with their current standings showing a need for immediate points.
